1. Assume you are registered for the team you select unless you are notified differently. You will receive a registration confirmation from GOTR-Nebraska AND PayPal with a successful registration.
2. GOTR teams meet at the front door of the school on the first day of practice, unless you are notified of special arrangements.
3. Rainy/Snowy Weather — GOTR teams will meet regardless of the weather, UNLESS the schools close.
4. No GOTR meetings when school is out of session for any reason or on early-release days.
5. If you cannot attend a GOTR meeting for any reason, please let your coach know so she doesn’t wonder and worry where you are.
6. Be considerate of our volunteer coaches’ time and pick up your daughter PROMPTLY after the conclusion of the GOTR meeting. Girls may be removed from the program if parents are habitually late for post-GOTR pick-up.
1. Athletic shoes and socks. Girls who don’t have shoes appropriate for exercise may be asked to call a parents to pick them up from GOTR.
2. Clothes appropriate for running and playing. Shorts and T-shirts usually work best in warm weather. If it’s cool, wear layers.
3. Full water bottle with GOTR girl’s name on it.
4. Washable marker and pen. Keep them in your daughter’s backpack.
5. Running journal. Your daughter might want to keep a notebook/running journal in her backpack to record each day’s progress.
6. Healthy after-school snack. GOTR girls are hungry after school. For some, it has been five hours since lunch. Girls will participate and concentrate better if they have fuel in their tank. Snack ideas include: string cheese, pretzels, apples, oranges, hard-boiled eggs, peanut butter on crackers, low-fat/reduced-sugar granola bars.
1. Come to each meeting with a positive outlook and a willingness to learn, make friends and have fun.
2. Get outside to run and walk for 15 to 20 minutes at least three times a week during the season to help prepare for the 5K and implement what you learn at GOTR. This is a great opportunity for families to be active together.
Registration: GOTR girls MUST REGISTER FOR THE 5K online to receive a finisher’s medal. There is no cost for GOTR girls to enter, but registration is required to help us plan for the correct number of participants and allocate resources efficiently. You will receive notification to register her via e-mail.
5K Clothing: GOTR girls should wear their GOTR T-shirt. Don’t wear new clothes or shoes on 5K day. Dress in layers (put GOTR shirt on top) if it’s cool.
Safety First: Headphones, children in strollers and pets are NOT allowed on the course due to organizational liability. PLEASE put the safety of participants first and adhere to these policies.
As part of a nationwide contest each spring, Secret Deodorant® will award five girls $500 each for writing a SHORT essay on a GOTR-related topic.
Watch for the announcement in your e-mail box. When we send out details, take a few minutes to share them with your daughter and encourage her to apply. The essay cannot exceed 300 words, so it shouldn’t take an “inspired” Girl on the Run long to finish. It’s a wonderful opportunity for girls to express themselves that might pay off handsomely for her.
Girls will wrap up the season and celebrate their accomplishments at the next regularly scheduled GOTR meeting after the GOTR-affiliated 5K. Parents are encouraged to help coaches by providing refreshments or coordinating details with this season-ending event.
