Meet Coach Shayna

Coaching GOTR inspired Shayna Wirges to make a job change so she could work with kids full-time. Shayna has coached two seasons at Lincoln’s Maxey Elementary.

For Shayna, every Tuesday and Thursday night took on a newfound significance as she eagerly anticipated seeing the girls during those times. She attributed her most fulfilling coaching experiences to her fellow coaches and the girls themselves, stating, “Every single day, I gleaned invaluable lessons from them.”

he took pride in imparting lessons on empathy, kindness, and consideration, believing strongly in the program's impact. “Honestly, I would have greatly benefited from this program if it had been available to me – so I was determined to spread as much GOTR power as possible.”

Shayna's impact was so profound that one of her girls wrote to the GOTR office, expressing, “Shayna is truly the best coach I have ever had. If anyone embodies niceness, humor, sweetness, and cheerfulness, it would definitely be her. She will always be my favorite and the funniest coach ever. No matter what.”

At the 2023 Fall GOTR 5K, she was recognized for her unwavering dedication and positivity. Thankfully, the admiration was mutual, as Shayna expressed her gratitude towards GOTR, stating, “I am blessed and honored to be a part of this organization and to work with incredible girls and women.”

To any prospective coaches, Shayna had a message: “You might find yourself learning even more than the girls!”
